Two Transfer Windows this Summer!

The coronavirus pandemic has adjusted many a schedule, and that of the summer transfer window is no exception.

Originally, teams were to have from July 1 through August 31 to make their personnel moves, as per usual. In coordination with FIFA, the German federation and leagues have arranged for two separate transfer periods  in preparation for the 2020-21 season.

The first still opens this Wednesday, but will close 24 hours later. The intent is to allow for the processing and registration of contracts already negotiated with no further delay.

The window will open again two weeks later on July 15th and remain so for until October 5th.  The additional time is said to be intended for “the clubs – also internationally – to be able to make transfers for as long and as flexibly as possible.”

The October 5 end date follows an UEFA recommendation to member associations. The deadline for registering players for the group stages of UEFA’s competitions will be October 6th.
