The second-round draw has been made for the DFB Pokal with 32 teams finding out their next opponents as they seek to reach the final at the Olympiastadion on June 3rd.
Reigning Pokal holders RB Leipzig face a tough encounter with 2. Bundesliga promotion favourites Hamburger SV. Leipzig disposed easily of Teutonia Ottensen 8-0 last week in their delayed first round tie, but the Hanseaten will provide a much sterner test for them at the Red Bull Arena.
Bayern Munich have a Bavarian derby against FC Augsburg as they seek to win a 21st DFB Pokal. It’s an all-Bundesliga affair, but one which Julian Nagelsmann will have every confidence of overcoming. There is another all-Bundesliga clash with Hoffenheim facing Schalke.
The sides currently setting the pace at the top of the 2. Bundesliga have both drawn Bundesliga sides. SC Paderborn will welcome Northern neighbours Werder Bremen while Darmstadt entertain Borussia Mönchengladbach. Hannover, who have now won four successive games play host to Borussia Dortmund.
Union Berlin, who made the semi-finals last season will play Heidenheim at the Stadion an der Alten Försterei, with beaten finalists SC Freiburg at home to St. Pauli. Minnows Elversberg, who dispatched Bayer Leverkusen in the first round will host the Bundesliga’s current bottom side VfL Bochum.
Eintracht Frankfurt, who have enjoyed their fair share of Cup success in recent year travel South to tackle Stuttgarter Kickers, whereas city rivals VfB Stuttgart host Arminia Bielefeld.
All matches are scheduled to be played on 18-19 October.
