Markus Weinzierl Takes Charge at 1.FC Nürnberg

1.FC Nürnberg have acted swiftly to replace coach Robert Klauß by appointing former Augsburg and Schalke coach Markus Weinzierl to the trainer position at the Max Morlock Stadion.

Klauß parted company with der Klub on Monday following the 3-0 weekend defeat to Karlsruher SC and a poor general start to the 2. Bundesliga season. The club have moved quickly to find a replacement and believe they have done so in Markus Weinzierl.

The new boss will meet the players on Tuesday morning, have a press conference with sporting director Dieter Hecking in the afternoon and oversee his first match at the weekend as Nürnberg face Holstein Kiel at home on Sunday.

Outgoing coach Robert Klauß did however leave a touching farewell message before his departure. “Dear club family” he began.

“Now the time has come to say goodbye to you all. An intensive and predominantly beautiful time has come to an end. I look back on the past two and a half years with a great deal of joy and am proud to have been the coach of 1. FC Nürnberg. I had so much fun every single day. I learned a lot and met a lot of great people.

That’s why I would like to thank you all very much and say goodbye to you, the employees, members, and fans of the entire club family, as soon as possible. I am already looking forward to coming back to Nuremberg as a guest. On that note, do well.”
