Bayern Munich Shock: Julian Nagelsmann Fired and Thomas Tuchel Lined Up

No this is not an April Fools Trick. If reports from respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano are to be believed, then Bayern Munich have sacked Julian Nagelsmann as head coach with Thomas Tuchel being brought in as his replacement.

Romano claimed earlier in a social media post that the Bayern hierarchy were having serious discussions about replacing Nagelsmann- a move which might seem crazy at first glance. Bayern however have moved very quickly today and fired Nagelsmann with immediate effect  and are working on a deal to bring in former BVB, PSG and Chelsea coach Tuchel. All that is missing at the moment is the final signature on the contract.

The Bavarians currently sit second in the Bundesliga with nine games left with the prospect of the Klassiker with Borussia Dortmund straight after the international break. Bayern have strolled to the quarter-finals of the Champions League overcoming Paris St Germain in the round of 16, but doubts apparently came to a breaking point amongst those in charge of the Rekordmeister after Bayern’s 2-1 loss to Bayer Leverkusen.

The club have consistently backed the former Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig trainer, but  the latest developments will send shock waves throughout the Bundesliga and the wider footballing world. As recently as Monday Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer was quoted in a Kicker interview saying: “Nagelsmann proved against PSG that he is tactically and strategically outstanding at the highest level. We’re planning long-term with him, we can see clear progress.”

What a difference three days makes.
