Virkus Preparing Mönchengladbach’s Summer Shopping List

Borussia Mönchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus is wasting no time in lining up new signings for next season with the Foals set to lose a number of key players this summer. The squad planner is sending out feelers in France, Switzerland and Greece as he looks to provide trainer Daniel Farke with the resources he needs.

With Marcus Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini and Lars Stindl all set to leave the Borussia Park at the end of the current season, Gladbach are definitely going to be in the market for a forward, a left back and an attacking midfielder at the very least. Other players like Manu Koné may still yet be tempted away.

In terms of strikers, Virkus has reportedly got his eye on three potentials to partner Alassane Plea, who has extended his contract at the club. One reported target is 26-year-old Cédric Itten from Young Boys Bern. He currently leads the Swiss Superleague scoring charts with 14 goals and would follow in the footsteps of Jordan, who left the Swiss club last summer for the Bundesliga and Union Berlin. Itten has previous experience with Glasgow Rangers and Greuther Fürth and has scored four goals in seven internationals so far. He could be snapped up for as little as €2 million.

Genk striker Hugo Cuypers is also under consideration and like Itten leads his countries scoring charts  with the third candidate currently under consideration said to be Greek international Anastasios Douvikas, who plays for FC Utrecht. The 23-year-old has hit the back of the net 13 times in the Eredivise and would demand a €6 million fee.

While Luca Netz looks likely to be given the chance to inherit Bensebaini’s left back slot, Mönchengladbach are reportedly looking at French U-21 international Faitout Maouassa from French side Montpellier. He has three goals and four assists in 25 games this year.

In terms of replacing captain Lars Stindl, the name of Swiss international Zeki Amdouni is cropping up. The 22-year-old FC Basel attacking midfielder has scored three goals and provided six assists this season so far and looks a real prospect.
