Chelsea’s Mason Mount Linked with Thomas Tuchel Reunion at Bayern

Media reports are claiming that new Bayern Munich trainer Thomas Tuchel is keen on bringing attacking midfielder Mason Mount to the Allianz Arena after the pair’s successful working relationship at Chelsea. The 24-year-old is being linked away from his boyhood club and a reunion with Tuchel could be on the cards.

Mount is out of contract next summer and with negotiations stalled he has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge with Manchester United and Liverpool both linked. However, Thomas Tuchel’s appointment as the new Bayern Munich coach could offer up the opportunity of the pair working together again.

The English international was a key player for Tuchel when he led Chelsea to the Champions League in 2021 and once the Bayern coach has weighed up his squad he may be looking at bringing in fresh faces for next season.

Chelsea have spent massively since American Todd Boehly bought the club and may have to sell some of their playing assets to ‘balance the books’ for Financial Fair Play. Mount could fetch a fee of some €50 million.

Speaking during his early days at Chelsea, Tuchel was a fan of Mount from the start. “With Mason I have a feeling he is very down to earth and that he can handle the pressure that comes with praise,” Tuchel said.

“He is well aware of what took him here and what makes him strong as a player and as a person. He is very mature and at the same time has this young player’s sparkle in his eyes.”

The attacking midfielder can line up anywhere in the three behind the striker in a front three and has also been deployed successfully as a ‘false nine’ at times. His set-piece delivery is outstanding and he possesses an innate ability to find space. Thomas Müller is not going to be around forever (sadly) and Mount could be seen as an heir for the legendary Bayern player.
