It is not just Bundesliga, Pokal and Champions League glory that Bayern coach Julian Nagelsmann is hunting at the moment- he has a spot of mole hunting to do as well.
The Munich trainer revealed at Friday’s press conference ahead of the weekend clash with Bayer Leverkusen that he is very unhappy about the recent leaking of team details from someone within the Bayern camp.
“I’m annoyed. The person who passes something on harms every single player, that’s not in the spirit of the matter. Moles are protected species, so the search is very, very complicated” he joked before becoming a little more serious.
“It is important to me that I can look in the mirror. This person will not be able to look so well in the mirror because it is not proper. I think about it a lot because I ask myself: What is the purpose of the person who is passing it on, what is he hoping for? The motive situation is not clear to me.”
Sport Bild had earlier revealed that it had got its hands on an “original document” from the Bayern dressing room, which according to them was a tactical note that Nagelsmann used to explain the new positions, running and passing routes to his players before the Bundesliga game against VfL Bochum in February. The core issue was how the players should move in the back three with and without possession of the ball.
The sacking of goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic was thought to have some link to leaked details from the coaching staff. Nagelsmann is reported to have lost trust in Tapalovic after internal materials of the coaching team were leaked to Manuel Neuer and then to the entire team via the goalkeeping coach.
His exit however doesn’t seem to have solved the problem of the Bayern mole, which was also a problem when Pep Guardiola was in charge at the Allianz Arena.
