Werder Bremen 0-1 Augsburg
Ole Werner: “The bottom line is that result is disappointing because we could have come away with the points. They caused us some problems in the opening stages, but then we really grew into the game. Unfortunately, we didn’t do well in possession of the ball today. Therefore, we couldn’t bring our own strengths into play and just didn’t create enough chances.
“The boys made the decision on the pitch based on who felt good taking it (the late penalty). It’s also part of football that sometimes you miss a penalty. In the end, it hurts because we could have equalized, which would not have been undeserved given our fight back.”
Enrico Maaßen: “It was a really intense game. We went into the game with bravery and an attacking mindset and created lots of chances. Our aim was to keep Werder far away from our goal and we achieved that, which is why we deserved the win at the end of the day.
“The two key moments were the disallowed goal in the first half for Bremen and then the penalty Rafa saved in added time. All in all, we came through against all odds today. The game will give us some self-confidence, but we need to keep our feet on the ground and carry on this path.”
Bayern Munich 2-2 VfB Stuttgart
Julian Nagelsmann: “We weren’t so good in the game for the first 30 minutes, that’s often the case after a Champions League game. Then we played very well for 15 minutes and deservedly led. The first 15 minutes of the second half were okay too. We had enough chances to score the third goal.
“In the end, Stuttgart took a lot of risks, we had good counterattack opportunities, but didn’t finish as well as we could have. It was a classic game. At some point the opponent thinks that something is still possible, and then the penalty kick in injury time is still possible. We’ll train tomorrow, train on Monday, prepare and try to come up with a good plan for Barcelona.”
Pellegrino Matarazzo: “We got into the game well until Bayern had their first chances after 30 minutes. In the second half it was an open game. We wanted to start higher and had to survive one or two counterattacks. The central defence was strong. I think the point is okay. I’m happy with the performance and the result.”
RB Leipzig 3-0 Borussia Dortmund
Marco Rose: “We scored three goals and didn’t concede, that’s nice! We were very present from the first minutes. It wasn’t perfect in terms of content, but we were intense, left something out there and took the whole stadium with us!
“Leipzig is my home, with whom I identify strongly! I feel very comfortable, like the people a lot and you could see that you can spark something together here! The key to success was that the team has an incredible quality in terms of speed and that we really can play! I can live with the way we performed very well!”
Edin Terzic: “It was very bitter for us. We played against a very strong opponent. It’s not enough to have five or six good minutes in Leipzig. It wasn’t a good performance and a deserved defeat.”
“We started the game fairly decently in the first few moments but failed to pick up after the goal we conceded. We had big problems with the pressing. We couldn’t free ourselves, became more insecure with every pass and were deservedly behind at the break. It wasn’t a good performance against a strong opponent. We didn’t manage to withstand the pressure. We could have used Tony Modeste more and thus overplayed the first phase of the pressing.”
Hoffenheim 4-1 Mainz
Andre Breitenreiter: “It was the difficult game we expected. Mainz showed why they are so good. We were lucky in the early stages that we didn’t fall behind. From the 20th minute it got better. Only then did we get behind the last line. I can only compliment my team on the game after the red card. It is not a matter of course that one plays more maturely with a man extra. That was really good. We didn’t allow anything and scored wonderful goals.”
Bo Svensson: “It was a game with two phases – the phase before and after the red card. We had to take the lead before the red card. We were a bit naïve when we conceded the first goal. I was happy with the performance before the red card.”
Eintracht Frankfurt 0-1 VfL Wolfsburg
Oliver Glasner: “A deserved victory for VfL Wolfsburg. I’m very disappointed with our performance today. It had nothing to do with how we want to play and can play. We were slow, ponderous and had zero assertiveness. It’s not the first time we’ve lost a defensive fight this season. We have to look at ourselves in the mirror and we will have to speak very clearly about that.”
Nico Kovac: “We are very happy with this away win, and I would like to congratulate the team because we made things difficult for Eintracht and worked self-sacrificingly. The players fought passionately, as we expect in this situation. It’s the first three points that we’ve got and hopefully it’s the beginning of playing in this way in the future.”
Hertha Berlin 2-2 Bayer Leverkusen
Sandro Schwarz: “It was a very active game; my team was very courageous and won a lot of good balls. There were phases in which the quality of Leverkusen was evident, but we always kept faith.
“The performance the team produced was very satisfying, the atmosphere was outstanding – we’re just struggling a bit with the result. The scene in the 82nd minute was a clear penalty for me.”
Gerardo Seoane: “We saw an entertaining game. My team failed to finish well in many scenes. Nevertheless, it was a clear improvement in performance. We could have done more with more efficiency.”
Schalke 3-1 VfL Bochum
Frank Kramer: “I think we were well in the game tonight. We had a lot of control and went ahead. We wanted to keep going, but conceded the equaliser soon into the second half. We had luck on our side today, though we deserved it after working so hard. We’re really pleased to be able to celebrate this win in front of our fans. It was an important game for us, so it’s totally normal that it got so emotional. I’m proud of the team.”
Thomas Reis: “This was a really frustrating game for us. We gave Schalke too much space in the first 20 minutes. We then started the second half well, but ultimately picked up no points once again. The lads are gutted in the changing rooms, they gave their all and ran so hard. Losing Takuma Asano early due to injury was just another part of our problems.
“We had chances up front, but our mistakes at the back are being punished right now. We weren’t without a chance tonight. We unfortunately conceded twice from set pieces, and that makes this result really frustrating.”
Köln 0-1 Union Berlin
Steffen Baumgart: “It’s a deserved victory, you have to acknowledge that very clearly. I haven’t seen a team play as well here as Union for a long time. You have to acknowledge that, the plan we had didn’t work out at all. That was because Union did very well and we had no answers.”
Urs Fischer: “I’m satisfied, big compliments to my team. We were ready for the task, we wanted to do better than on Thursday. The lead was deserved, but maybe by a goal too few. We ran the game down well without letting Cologne threaten .”
Freiburg 0-0 Borussia Mönchengladbach
Christian Streich: “It was a tough game. Gladbach played with a lot of versatility. We had two or three moments in the first half where we won the ball in good positions, so it’s a shame that we couldn’t make the most of that. Borussia could easily have taken the lead during that phase though too.
“Our mentality was very strong in the second half and played with a lot of conviction against a good Gladbach side. My team gave it everything and tried their hardest to get the win, which is fantastic following on from a difficult Europa League game on Thursday.”
Daniel Farke: “I couldn’t be much happier in terms of our performance. Despite missing three of our regular starters, we were the dominant side in the first half and created a number of chances. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to take the lead. We had to be attentive in defence in the second half, and we were exactly that.
Our position play wasn’t as sharp in the second half so we struggled to create goalscoring opportunities, but that’s normal when you have so many personnel changes. We kept a clean sheet against the league leaders and picked up a point.
It looks like Florian Neuhaus may have suffered a cruciate ligament injury. Hopefully he’ll be lucky and the official diagnosis is something less serious.”
